I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Absolutely Not! People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

The difference is between someone who can do something, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals. For those who desire faith based sessions, together, we will also incorporate spiritual techniques to encourage you in your journey.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.

    How long will it take?

Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.

    How are the sessions conducted?

Therapy sessions are available in-person for Maryland residents and/or online via Telehealth for Maryland or Virginia residents. See the “online therapy” section for more details.

    Where is your office located?

Refocus Together is located at 9672 Marlboro Pike, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772. The building is Melwood Executive Suites and the practice’s office is facing Marlboro Pike. The Children’s Hospital Annex is located in the same office park as the practice.

    Do you take insurance?

Currently, I do not accept insurance. All sessions are private pay.

    So, what’s the cost?

The in-office and online therapy fees are the same. The sessions are 45-60 minutes. Fees per session are $100.00 for individual, $125.00 for couples, and $150 for family/groups. You can schedule a longer session time if desired, for an additional fee. Cash, PayPal, Check, Debit and all Major Credit Cards are accepted for payment.

    What are your hours?

My Office Hours are Monday – Friday (evenings) and Weekends.

    By Appointment Only

    Is there a cancellation policy?

Yes, the appointments are reserved for you. You will be charged if:

You DO NOT show up for scheduled therapy appointments and

You DO NOT provide advance cancellation notice (at least 24 hours) to the therapist.

The fee charged is the full amount of the missed session.

    Is therapy confidential?

Yes, what you say in the sessions, stays between a client and the therapist unless:

    • Client threatens to hurt or harm another person. (The therapist is required to notify the police.)
    • Client threatens to harm himself or herself. (The therapist will  work with the individual to ensure their safety. However, if an individual does not cooperate, additional measures may be taken by the therapist.)
    • Any incident of suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse. (The therapist is required to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.)

Therefore, no information can be disclosed without prior written permission from the client.
See Authorization of Release form under the forms section.

What happens if there are issues with your payment?

If your payment is declined, you are responsible for the full payment of the session (plus additional fees) prior to another session. If the payment is not made, the therapist reserves the right to discontinue the services.
